  Students meet at 7.30pm at amphitheater in Cinnamon college and proceed to CTPH hall for their first activity. Then they proceed to SR1 for the rest of the activities.

  

            Risk assessment

At TPCH hall the students are informed of how their resident in Vietnam will be like. They are to oversee potential risks and rank them accordingly.

Facilitation 4 - 29th SEP 2012

Agenda of facilitation

• Dry run for local CIP
• Assigning different positions for local CIP

Participants met up at 10:00am at Cinnamon College CPTH for bonding camp. Facilitation starts at 7:30 pm at SR1.

Vietnamese lesson 2

Participants learned number, basic conversation, day of the week and fields of study.

Dry run for local CIP

Local CIP cell held a dry run for four games and gathered feedbacks for each game from participants.

1. Number game - 
   Feedback : Change the colour of the numbers on the card to a more visible colour.
2. Musical Chairs- 
   Feedback: Game masters could reward higher point to best dancers. Game masters and facilitators could take note of the students’ safety.

   Feedback: The circle could be bigger to increase difficulty of the game. At the checkpoint, someone could hold a bell .A nametag could be paste at the back of the “goat” and “catcher”. 
   
   
   Assigning of different positions for local CIP
   Participants volunteered to be either game masters or facilitators. Game master must be someone who is very familiar with the game rules while facilitator is someone who would bring students to each game station and guide them to do reflections.

Facilitation Session #3 (20th September 2012)

Agenda of Facilitation:

Participants met up at 7:30pm at Cinnamon College Amphitheater. Besides facilitation, a concurrent fund-raising was also conducted at the Chua Tian Poh Hall as there was an ongoing even - Quidditch Inter-House Championship. 

Team Flag;
Participants were told to consider what they discussed last week for their Vision and Mission, and to translate it into a pictorial/visual form. This was the final Team Flag:

• "Happy" and the "Heart" was drawn in the form of an Electrocardiogram (ECG) diagram. Signifies that to be happy comes from serving with a heart - (Mission: To Serve With A Genuine Heart Through Actions) 
• Book - (Vision) To Learn
• Hands and Heart - (Vision) To Serve ; (Mission) To appreciate the essence of community service and embrace the Vietnamese culture.
• Light Bulb - (Vision) To Inspire; (Mission) To enrich them with knowledge and skill to grow confidently and achieve their dreams.

Participants were then led into the Seminar Room to be involved in an activity, termed "Service Learning". Facilitators (Co-Leaders) facilitated the session by engaging the participants by asking thought-provoking questions.

Participants were asked what does "Service Learning" mean to them, and to gauge the project by questioning if the project involves "More Service, Less Learning", "Only Service", "Less Service More Learning" and "Only Learning". The room was split into quadrants, with each quadrant representing an option and the participants were tasked to move to the quadrant that best represent their idea of "Service Learning" and their impression of the project. A wide range of answers were observed and participants were asked to explain "Why So?".
Participants were then probed with questions that challenge their idea/mindset/perspective of Service Learning and Community Involvement Projects. (E.g. "Does poverty means a lack of material possession",  "My good intentions will materialize itself regardless of the means of help"). Co-leaders shared their experiences from the previous NVVN trip and got the participants to think about their actions and the project itself.

1. Can you give the approximate dates of the interviews?

Interviews would happen from the first week of school (13th August) till the end of the second week of school (24th August)

2. When can we start signing up for NVVN'12?

Sign-ups are opened from 16th July 2012 till 17th August 2012. 

3. Who are you looking for to be part of the team?

We are looking for a diverse range of people, hence there is not a need to possess a specific skill set.

However, we are definitely looking for team-players! 

4. Are the facilitation sessions compulsory?

Yes! The facilitation sessions are compulsory and are conducted on a weekly basis. This is essential prior to the trip so that participants are able to plan and execute the Youth Expedition Project (YEP) with ease and confidence.

Additionally, basic Vietnamese language would be taught to the participants to ensure that individuals are able to fluently converse basic greetings with the locals in Dai Chanh Commune. 

Unless a valid reason is provided, facilitation sessions are compulsory. 

5. When are the facilitation sessions?

Tentatively, facilitation sessions are held every Tuesday at Cinnamon College Seminar/Tutorial Rooms. 

The time is the same as previous years, from 7pm onwards. 

6. How are the living conditions at the village that we are residing in?

Living conditions are good and definitely habitable. 

Not to worry about sanitary conditions as there is a proper plumbing system at the place we are heading to, and the home that we are residing in. 

7. How much do we need to pay to participate in this project?

The cost that every participant must contribute is S$500. 

This includes airfare, transport within Vietnam (private van), provision of basic cookware as well as food within the village. 

This is a very small sum for a 3 week YEP as compared to other YEPs.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. How many students are selected for the team ?

The numbers may range between 20 - 25 depending on the interviews that would be conducted. 

Successful interviewees would be notified by electronic mail (e-mail).

2. Who may apply?

Any individuals who are students of the National University of Singapore (NUS) may apply.

Students may be from any courses and year of study.

3. When are the interviews?

 Interview would occur once the sign-ups starts.

Tentatively, it would happen from the second week of school to the fourth week.

4. What are the actual dates for the expedition?

Actual dates for the expedition is only confirmed when the team has been formed owing to the differing dates of examinations. Tentatively, the embarkment date would be on the 8th or 10th December 2012.

5. What is the commitment level?

All potential participants are to note that there would be weekly meetings. 

These weekly facilitation sessions are compulsory and are meant to facilitate bonding within the team, as well as to plan for the expedition program in Vietnam. Additionally, Vietnamese lessons would be conducted so as to equip participants with basic Vietnamese.
